Council Standing Committees

City Council adopted the Rules of Council, and Section 11 establishes the following six (6) Standing Committees:

  1. Economic Development
  2. Finance & Budget
  3. Legislative Review & Government Affairs
  4. Property Management
  5. Public Safety
  6. Public Service & Utilities

At the second regular meeting in January each year, the Council President shall appoint three (3) members of Council, and one (1) Council member to serve as an Alternate, to each of the above-mentioned Standing Committees. None of the Standing Committees have regular meeting schedules; therefore, per Section 11.03(B) of the Rules of Council, agendas for meetings will be published forty-eight (48) hours in advance. All Standing Committees are open to the public. Information on each Standing Committee is listed below. The Standing Committees will review policies, legislation, and other matters and will report its findings and submit recommendations to City Council for consideration.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: This Committee assumed the duties of the former Economic Development and Advisory Board and shall, in the interest of the sustainability of the City and the economic betterment of its citizens, serve as the core advisory body regarding all economic development interests and activities for the City. The Committee shall advise and assist administrative leadership and the City Council in matters related to economic development planning and advocacy. Councilmembers assigned to this Committee include: Levi Dean, Chair; Sarah Mays, and James Crawford. The Alternate is Faith Sorice.

FINANCE & BUDGET: This Committee assumed the duties of a former Budget Review Ad-Hoc Committee and reviews City financial information and participate in yearly budget planning. Councilmembers assigned to this Committee include: Ethan Reynolds, Chair; Will Urschel; and Wes Smith. The Alternate is Sarah Mays.

LEGISLATIVE REVIEW & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS: This Committee reviews proposed rewrites or additions to the Xenia City Code and reviews State or County-level legislation that may affect the City. Councilmembers assigned to this Committee include: Sarah Mays, Chair; Wes Smith; and Will Urschel. The Alternate is James Crawford.

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT: This Committee reviews matters regarding the management, acquisition, sale, or improvement of City properties. Councilmembers assigned to this Committee include: James Crawford, Chair; Levi Dean; and Ethan Reynolds. The Alternate is Wes Smith.

PUBLIC SAFETY: This Committee reviews matters related to the Police Division, Communications (9-1-1), and Fire & EMS Division regarding emergency preparedness, apparatus, etc. Councilmembers assigned to this Committee include: Wes Smith, Chair; Sarah Mays; and Faith Sorice. The Alternate is Will Urschel.

PUBLIC SERVICE & UTILITIES: This Committee assumed the duties of the Traffic Commission, Wellhead Protection Committee, and Stormwater Advisory Committee and reviews matters involving streets; the City's water, sewer, and stormwater systems and utilities; and the City's closed landfill.  Councilmembers assigned to this Committee include: Will Urschel, Chair; Ethan Reynolds; and Faith Sorice. The Alternate is Levi Dean.
